Complete simple past sentences with the correct form of be. Note: Because apostrophes can sometimes cause technical matching errors, it is better to use the full form when completing the gaps. If you use a shortened form, both the straight apostrophe (') and the curly apostrophe (’) are accepted.
Use be as the main linking verb in the simple past. Complete the sentence with was or were. For negative answers, the full form and both straight- and curly-apostrophe short forms are accepted.
